A Rooted Approach to Calm

I first found meditation when I was sixteen.

I couldn’t sleep. My mind wouldn’t settle. A friend gave me a cassette tape with a guided body scan and said, “Try this.” I lay in the dark, pressed play, and something in me softened.

My body felt held.

My thoughts felt less sharp.

It was the first time I realised there was a way to meet myself gently.

I didn’t know then that this small moment would become a lifelong companion.

A practice that grew with me

In my early twenties I joined a meditation circle and explored workshops, curious about the practice at Derbyshire's Tara International Kadampa Retreat Centre. Sitting in quiet rooms with monks learning how stillness can be a teacher. Meditation slowly stopped being something I did and became something I lived with. Holding gatherings on the moon cycles, sitting in candlelight, breathing together, and allowing whatever needed to rise to rise. Meditation is about becoming intimate with your own inner landscape. It is not about belonging to yourself.

Meditation in my work

Meditation has been my anchor through restless nights, anxious days, and ordinary Tuesdays. It has helped me sleep. It has steadied me through anxiety. It has softened the way I speak to myself.

Through Rooted Wellness, I offer gentle guided meditation sessions where people are invited to pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves. Not because I have all the answers, but because I know what it is to need peace. And I know how powerful it can be to simply sit, breathe, and begin again — returning to a place within yourself that feels steady, grounded, and quietly your own.

Some of the ways meditation can help

Many people turn to meditation simply because they need a little more space in their lives. Over time, a regular practice may help to:

• reduce stress and anxiety
• support better sleep
• bring greater awareness to thoughts and emotions
• create moments of stillness in busy lives
• help you feel more grounded and present
• soften the way you relate to yourself

Meditation does not aim to remove thoughts or fix everything overnight, but it can gently change the way we meet ourselves and the world around us.

What to expect

Meditation sessions with Rebecca are calm, gentle and unhurried. You don’t need any previous experience — just a willingness to slow down for a while.

Sessions may include simple breath awareness, guided meditation, body awareness practices, or quiet moments of shared stillness. There is nothing you need to achieve and nothing you need to get “right”. The practice is simply an opportunity to pause and spend a little time with yourself. Many people leave feeling calmer, more grounded, and a little more at home within themselves.

Is meditation right for me?

Many people feel unsure about trying meditation, especially if they believe they need to “empty the mind” or do it perfectly.

In reality, meditation isn’t about getting rid of thoughts or achieving a particular state. Thoughts will come and go — that is simply part of being human.

These sessions are open to anyone who feels the need for a little more calm, space, or steadiness in their life. Whether you are completely new to meditation or returning to it after time away, you are welcome exactly as you are.

If something in this resonates with you, you are warmly welcome to get in touch to learn more about meditation sessions with Rebecca.
